Welcome to Coonspire.

Coonspire is a small, independent cattery dedicated to breeding wild-look Maine Coons.
We are drawn to the raw, powerful appearance of the breed — strong bone structure, clean lines, and a look that stays true to the Maine Coon standard. At the same time, we do not pursue exaggerated features or aesthetics that come at the expense of long-term health.

For us, health always comes before appearance.

In our breeding program, we intentionally avoid traits that may look striking in photos but are often associated with underlying issues, such as excessive ear set, poor structural balance, entropion, or potential limb and gait concerns. We believe a truly exceptional Maine Coon should reflect strength and wild beauty built on a healthy, functional structure, rather than extremes designed solely to attract attention.

Our breeding lines are built from multiple established, long-standing cattery programs with proven consistency and stability.
We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to LMCoonCat Maine Coons for their guidance and support throughout our journey.

LMCoonCat is not only a close friend, but also a respected mentor whose experience has been invaluable to us. From our earliest exposure to the Maine Coon breed — learning the breed standard, understanding structure, health screening, and long-term breeding planning — we have benefited greatly from their knowledge and insight.

While we are not currently active on the show circuit due to time and practical considerations, this does not reflect a lack of commitment to breed standards or health. On the contrary, with proper guidance, we maintain ongoing observation and detailed records of each cat’s structure, temperament, and health, and we continue to learn through regular communication with experienced breeders.

About Me & Why We Chose to Move Slowly

My name is Lisa, and I am a breeder with an academic background in biology and a long-standing passion for the Maine Coon breed. Entering this field was not a spontaneous decision.

Before Coonspire was formally established, I spent nearly two years in focused preparation and learning, including:

Studying the Maine Coon breed standard and structural balance
Learning genetics and foundational breeding principles
Understanding health screening processes and how to interpret results
Observing, communicating with, and learning from experienced breeders

It was only after this period — in 2025 — when I felt confident that I truly understood and respected the breed beyond its appearance, that we decided to move forward with breeding plans.

Health Standards Are Not a Marketing Claim

All breeding cats in our program have completed, or are scheduled to complete, the following health evaluations:

Cardiac ultrasound screening (HCM)
Hip evaluations
DNA genetic testing

We fully understand that no health screening can guarantee perfect outcomes. However, these evaluations represent the minimum standard of responsibility we believe a breeder should uphold.

Unfortunately, such practices are still not universal among backyard breeders. We choose to treat these health standards not as selling points, but as the foundation of our breeding program.

A Young Cattery — Without the Need to Prove Ourselves

We are open about the fact that Coonspire is a young cattery.
We do not operate at a large scale, nor do we rush expansion simply to appear established or impressive.

Instead, we choose to move deliberately —
breeding selectively, observing carefully, and refining our direction over time.

Our hope is that, years from now, when people think of Coonspire, they do not think of hype or trends, but of:

Health. Authenticity. Wild beauty rooted in respect for the breed.
